- Kalima Bukenya won the ASC Student Paper Award at AIAA SciTech 2022
Congratulations to Kalima for being awarded in the Student Paper Competition at AIAA SciTech 2022 with her work on “Process Modeling of Woven Textiles”. Special thanks to all the co-authors, including her fellow Ph.D. student, Michael Olaya, and Dr. Evan Pineda from NASA Glenn Research Center.

- Prof. Maiaru awarded AFOSR YIP 2020
Prof. Maiaru was awarded the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Program (YIP) together with 36 scientists and engineers from 27 research institutions and businesses who submitted winning research proposals. This grant will enable fundamental research on Physics-based Process Modeling for High-Temperature and High-Strength Composites.

- Congratulations to Francesco
Francesco Calleri graduated from Politecnico di Torino in Italy on April 6, 2020, with a master thesis titled “Failure Analysis of Cross-Ply Laminates.” His work, performed at UMass Lowell under the supervision of Prof. Maiaru, was sponsored by the WindSTAR project A1-19 and mentored by industries leader in the wind energy: TPI Composites and Hexion. Congratulations to Francesco!
- AIAA ICME Prize 2020
Prof. Maiaru won the ICME prize 2020 for the best aerospace focused ICME project together with a team of engineers and academics from the University of Michigan, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, GE Aviation, GE R&D, and Convergent Manufacturing Technologies. The project titled “Integrated Computational Modeling for Efficient Material and Process Design for Composite Aerospace Structures” was awarded at the AIAA SciTech Forum in Orlando in January 2020.
AIAA SciTech is the largest event for aerospace research, development, and technology in the world.
